Devotional: The name of Jesus

Why do we pray in the name of JESUS? Why is that name so powerful, so strong, so effective? I was reflecting on the weapons of our warfare recently, and I thought about the name of JESUS - and I just could not help but get into this song:




What is it about the name of JESUS? What is the something about that NAME?

Well as the bible says:

Phil 2: 9-11

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Why should this happen? Because HE earned the right:

Phil 2: 5-8

⁵ Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, ⁷ but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

And why should every thing bow to HIM?

Col 2: 13-15

¹³ And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, ¹⁴ having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. ¹⁵ Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Demons tremble at that name, because they remember the day HE triumphed over them. They thought they had beaten HIM , but then to their horror, they discovered that the way of death was the way of triumph. HE made a spectacle of them, creating a path wherein men can find their way back to GOD.

So the demons fight back by trying to harass us, those of us called by HIS name. But the name still works the same today. Demons still tremble at that name – use it against fear, lust, anger, pride, poverty, sickness. Curse them all in the name of JESUS. And watch them flee.

Victory in the name of JESUS!!

I Cor 15: 57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Oh yes, we have victory in the name name of JESUS. That is why there are so many songs out there that reflect on that NAME, so many bible verses that talk about power in THAT name.

For instance

Prov 18: 19

¹⁰ The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe.

And JESUS himself said:

Mark 16: 7-8

¹⁷ And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; ¹⁸ they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Did I say that there is power in that name? No matter what is going on in your life, think about the name of JESUS, think about the process he went through to be able to earn the right to THAT NAME, and use it with authority and confidence. Because really, demons tremble, yes, they tremble at that name.
